Welcome to Witching, The Wrong Way, a space where modern witchcraft takes on an entirely new twist—one that aligns with the unique energies of the Southern Hemisphere and celebrates a fresh, personal approach to an ancient craft. Based in Australia, I’m a witch-in training exploring, experimenting, and crafting my own path in a world that often defaults to the Northern hemisphere for rituals and guidance.

The name of this blog, Witching, The Wrong Way, stems from a core truth I've embraced about my witchcraft journey: sometimes, going "the wrong way" is exactly the right way.

The Southern Hemisphere offers a perspective that turns traditional witchcraft practices on their head—literally. Ever since I realised the sabbats were meant to honour the seasons, it never made sense to me to practice like it's the Northern hemisphere. Our Wheel of the Year doesn't follow the familiar rhythms, and many of the staple roles of nature and its cycle just don't apply. How can winter mean death when the orange trees are bursting with fruit? But it's not necessarily a bad thing. In fact, it’s a powerful opportunity to carve out our own practices, adjust ancient rituals to our landscape, encourages us to learn and pay attention to our own natural cycles, and respect the profound relationship we share with this land.

You also might have noticed, I'm not exactly the dark and gothic witch from an impressive yet foreboding hut. Black candles, skulls, and mahogany chests just aren't my cup of rose flavoured tea. Through this blog you'll find ways to incorporate visual appeal into every ceremony and spell when possible. Expressing ourselves in what we do is is part of what gives it power, but it isn't always easy when your practice outwardly looks more Glinda than Elpheba. Representing the glitter, rose quartz and roses of spiritual expression, We'll find ways, and provide resources, to add this unique creativity ( and/or feminine power depending on your interpretation ) to our workings to enhance connections and imbue more meaning and power into our practice.

I’ll also be delving into modern witchcraft practices, such as city magic, faerie faith, and the blending of these with traditional concepts from wiccan, and other European, regimes. Seeking connections between the mundane and the mystical, looking for links that incorporate them into seamless and respectful new traditions. Whether it’s through reflective writing, thought-provoking essays, or reviews of academic works, this blog will become a place to study, reflect, and, most importantly, do magic in a way that is informed and evolving.

And that's what this blog is about, embracing that 'wrong'ness —taking what has been handed down and reimagining it in a way that speaks to not just passions, but to the environment in the southern hemisphere here which is so different from the places that these traditions started. Experimenting with new forms of magic, and challenging the structures that dictate how things "should" be, or were, done. In that sense, going "the wrong way" can be an act of rebellion and self-discovery. It is in breaking the rules that we often find our own truths, build personal practices, and craft a magic that is as authentic as it is effective.

This journey is as about embracing uncertainty, making mistakes, and finding our own way in the process. Together, we’ll discover the sacred in the everyday, the magic that runs deep in this land, and the way we can shape our witchcraft practices to honour both tradition, ourselves, and innovation.

So come, wander with me down a path that others might call the "wrong way"—and let’s see just how right it can feel.
